Only Children Are More Likely To Cheat

Only children have been called spoiled and selfish. As if that’s not bad enough, a new survey reveals unfaithful could be added to that list, too. According to a survey conducted by Illicit Encounters, a dating site for married people who want to have an affair, the majority of their clients (24%) have no siblings.

Illicit Encounters’ data finds the second highest group of users are first-born kids (28%), then youngest children (23%), and finally the most faithful group - middle kids, who only make up 15% of the site’s users. So why are so many of these cheaters only children?

“It’s well-known that an only child can experience the feeling of immense loneliness in their childhood, and that comes back to haunt them in their future relationships,” says Illicit Encounters spokesperson Christian Grant.

Grant goes on to say that because people without siblings have been starved of attention for so long, they’re in desperate need of it as adults. “This manifests itself quite clearly when someone’s partner works long hours or travels frequently for work,” he explains. “The alone time for an only child just won't do, so an affair is the perfect short-term solution.” Well, that’s one way to look at it.
