Americans are slugging down java at the highest levels since 2012. The demand for at-home coffee consumption and gourmet drinks are also apparently on the rise, according to an industry study.
In fact, 64% of Americans age 18 or over said they had a cup of coffee the previous day in 2018. Those numbers are on par with levels last seen in 2012, according to results of a survey commissioned by the National Coffee Association.
The NCA survey asked about 3,000 people what they drank the day before at different times of day. Even as demand for soda and juice keeps dropping, the study shows, coffee, bottled water and tea are steady on the rise.
- Millennials are driving the rise of gourmet coffee beverages, with 48% of those surveyed saying they had a cup of coffee they consider to be gourmet the day before.
- Here's something else: smartphone apps with delivery services are niche. Nine percent of Americans who said they drank coffee in the past week had ordered it through an app, the survey showed.
- And by the way? A totally separate study shows Americans binge 17 billion drinks a year! Alcoholic drinks, that is…and about 80% of the drinks were consumed by men.
