How To Make Sure You Don’t Get A Bad Haircut

Have you ever suffered silently after getting a bad haircut? Well, according to an “O” Magazine poll, you’re hardly alone. They asked readers about their “misadventures in hairstyling” and found that more than half (56%) of us have had a horrible haircut and not spoken up about it. And 70% admitted to cutting their own hair, but it wasn’t as bad as it sounds - close to half of them were actually happy with the results.

But when you’re getting your tresses trimmed by a pro, how can you avoid ending up with a cut you don’t like? Here are some tips from hairstylist Lisa Chiccine for walking out of the salon with a look you’re happy with.

  • Don’t style your hair the day of your appointment - That way your stylist will be able to see the natural texture of your hair. And talk to your pro about how much time you’re willing to spend styling your hair and which products you’ll need to get the look at home.
  • Bring photos - Of both what you like and what you don’t. You might describe something you want, but to your stylist, it means something different. So a photo makes it easy to know exactly what you mean.
  • Ask the stylist to show you exactly what she plans to do - Chiccine says she should be able to give you an idea of the end result by holding your hair at different lengths.
