How To Cope When You’re Burned Out At Work

When we pour our heart and souls into our work, it can leave us feeling mentally and physically exhausted. Quitting might seem like the easy fix, but we don’t always have the luxury of walking away from a paying job. So how can we get over feeling burned out, even if we can’t take time off? Here’s how to recharge and refocus, so you don’t feel so drained.

  • Put yourself first - Nobody else is going to do it for you, so you have to look out for yourself. That means setting boundaries when you have a personal function and need to leave on time. And it means not always checking work emails after hours, so your time off is truly yours.
  • Make a work friend - Find a buddy at work with a positive attitude, because misery loves company, and you don’t need that negativity in the office. And then go out to lunch or for a quick afternoon walk with them, you need fresh air and a change of scenery sometimes.
  • Shorten your to-do list - Keep your daily task list manageable, so you stand a chance of actually completing it. Maintain a longer master to-do list with everything on it, but break it down into a few things a day so it’s not so intimidating.
  • Find a new hobby - Having something fun to do outside work will help you feel like you have a life outside the office and it’ll give you something to look forward to.
