Napoleon, Ohio – August 5, 2024 – Construction bidding has officially opened for the highly
anticipated Henry County Event Center!
The proposed 43,750-square-foot facility will be built at the north end of the Henry County
Fairgrounds, marking a collaborative effort between the Henry County Commissioners, the
Henry County Agricultural Society (Ag Society), and the Henry County Agricultural Improvement
Association. This project is expected to be completed by summer 2025.
Vision Becomes Reality Through Collaboration
Over the past year, these three entities have worked diligently to turn the dream of a new event
center into a reality. The project began as a volunteer-led effort by the Henry County Agricultural
Improvement Association, who secured private donations, designed initial building plans, and
laid the groundwork for the project. The Ag Society then came on board endorsing the project
and selecting the construction site. Finally, the Henry County Commissioners joined forces,
providing additional funding and strategies to maximize the project's economic impact on the
county.
Building a publicly funded project required extensive planning and communication to ensure
clarity on roles and responsibilities. A memorandum of understanding (MOU) is being
established that outlines the repayment plan for the construction loan. Revenue generated from
event center operations, potential future grants, and continued fundraising will contribute to the
repayment.
Event Center Poised to Be a Regional Draw
The Henry County Ag Society will manage the new venue and has appointed an event manager
to oversee construction, initiate event bookings, and coordinate services.
To celebrate this milestone, a groundbreaking ceremony will be held on Sunday, August 11th, at
11:00 AM during the Henry County Fair. The event will commence in the Ag Hall, followed by a
visit to the future site of the Event Center.
Leaders Voice Excitement for the Future
"Ironing out every detail was crucial," states Lori Siclair, President of the Commissioners Board.
"This ensures compliance with public project procedures, clarity during construction, and a clear
loan repayment plan."
"We're thrilled to bring new opportunities and exposure to the fairgrounds," says Josh Rettig,
President of the Henry County Ag Society. "Utilizing the space year-round will expand our reach
and attract visitors from the tri-state area."
"This all began as a vision – to build something for generations of Henry County residents to
enjoy," remarks Nick Elchinger, President of the Henry County Agricultural Improvement
Association. "We're extremely grateful for the partnership and support of the Henry County
Commissioners and Ag Society in making this dream a reality."
