The GM Powertrain plant on the east side of Defiance is celebrating 75 years of manufacturing for the automotive industry. Today (Thur.) they hosted employees, retirees, and their families for an appreciation day that included food trucks, kids activities, tours of the plant, and a car show. The car show included some classic vehicles from the 1960’s; but also some of General Motors new electric vehicles, including a Hummer and Cadillac.
Defiance Powertrain Plant Director Derrick Parson stated they wanted to bring back retirees, who had built the foundation of this plant through their hard work. The day also featured the donation of $50,000 from General Motors to a pair of local agencies that serve the community: Defiance Dream Center, and Defiance County Homegrown Workforce and Business Development Council. GM this year alone has donated 3 million dollars in grants to 157 non-profit agencies around the U.S.
