DEFIANCE CITY SCHOOL BD APPROVES NEW 3-YEAR CONTRACT WITH TEACHERS ASSOC.

The Defiance City School Board of Education has ratified a new contract for their teachers association, with the action at Wednesday’s meeting. The new agreement calls for a 3% increase in base salary the first year, followed by increases of 2.5% in each of the next two years. There were also significant changes in fringe benefits, with the teachers agreeing to a high-deductible plan for health insurance. That is estimated to save the district about $967,000 over the next five years. There are 185 teachers in the Defiance City School district.

The Defiance School Board approved administrative contracts for Technology Director- Andrew Eckhart, Middle School Principal-Matt Carr, Athletic Director- Jerry Buti, Director of Operations-John Mayes, and Transportation Supervisor-Mark Weidenhammer. Some resignations from staff were also accepted by the Defiance School Board: Jane Myers-elementary principal, Kevin Kline-marketing teacher, and Devin Sheller-assistant band director.

New members of the Defiance School staff were also hired at the Wednesday meeting: Brandon Fisher-assistant high school principal, Olivia Fett- intervention teacher, and Erin Rettig-assistant band director.
