In the past 14 years, there have only been three months, in which a local county reported over 3,000 vehicle titles were issued. And those three months were in the last year from Defiance County. Clerk of Courts Amy Galbraith reports Defiance County issued 3,068 vehicle titles in March; and they topped 3,000 in June and July of last year, even during the heart of the pandemic.
Comparing numbers in March, Defiance County issued 3,068 titles last month, compared to 1,952 in March of last year. New car titles jumped from 102 to 182 in the monthly comparison, while new truck titles surged from 53 to 81. Motorcycle titles also increased, from 36 to 56 in March; and titles for travel trailers bumped from 14 to 25. But the biggest surge was in the water, where watercraft titles last year in March were only 6 in Defiance County, while this year’s figure is 40. The total vehicle sales tax collected in March surpassed 1.3 million dollars.
