DEFIANCE COUNCIL APPROVES PICKLEBALL COURTS, LETS LIE DT REFRESHMENT ISSUE

It looks like more discussion is ahead, when it comes to expanding the Defiance downtown outdoor refreshment district. Defiance Council let the ordinance lie for another week, with a third reading scheduled for next Tuesday.

Council passed an ordinance to move forward with a round-about at the intersection of Ottawa and Cleveland Avenue, as a safety measure. It’s a nearly 2.4 million dollar project, with a sizable amount of grant dollars helping to pay for the project.

Defiance Council has approved another ordinance to convert the tennis courts at Kingsbury Park, to pickleball courts. Private donations of over $75,000 are helping to make this project happen. The total overall cost is about $111,000.

And look for legislation coming in the next week or two, after discussion on a collaborative effort to improve water quality, with the city of Defiance, local schools, Defiance College, and other entities joining the effort.
