THREE COVID-19 OUTBREAKS REPORTED IN DEFIANCE COUNTY

The Defiance County Health District reports they are dealing with 3 Covid-19 outbreaks around the county, including two at long-term care facilities.The third outbreak is the result of a small private party.

Defiance County health department is conducting contact tracing to determine how the outbreaks started, and to make sure those who came in contact with infected persons can be isolated.Those close contacts are now being monitored.

Defiance Health Commissioner Jamie Gerken reports long-term care facilities are at higher risk of outbreaks due to the close contact of residents and staff members.She stated there was no way to determine how these outbreaks in nursing homes occurred, at this point.But Gerken did point-out that the facilities have taken immediate action to protect residents and staff.

Outbreaks of corona virus are increasingly being linked to gatherings at private parties in homes, so the health department is encouraging everyone to be cautious, and to practice social distancing.
