CITY OF DEFIANCE BRACES FOR LOWER REVENUES IN 2020

The city of Defiance is looking at a projected one million dollar shortfall in revenue for 2020, due to Covid-19 ripple effects.That was news delivered at a finance committee meeting Tuesday night.The year actually got off to a great start in revenue for January and February, but the corona virus began to affect receipts in March.The city has implemented a hiring freeze, and a couple of city employees that resigned, will not be replaced.Paving in Defiance will also be scaled back.They are still trying to get a feel for projections; but income tax revenues will likely be down about 10%, and gas tax receipts will also be lower, due to the stay-at-home order.
