GREEN MEADOWS CONFERENCE VOTES TO REMOVE HOLGATE, THEIR BOARD CHOOSES BBC

It was a whirlwind day for the Holgate School community on Thursday. In the morning, Green Meadows Conference principals on the league executive board voted to remove Holgate from the conference. It was a majority vote, and the GMC release indicated the move was being made for the benefit of the conference, and for Holgate. It’s likely the lack of 11 man football was an issue for other schools in the league, and the fact Holgate did not have wrestling.

Once that action took place, the Holgate School Board scheduled a special meeting on Thursday to discuss the situation and possibly re-visit the invitation from the Buckeye Border Conference.A check yesterday indicated that invite was still on the table; and the Holgate Board voted 4-0 to accept the invitation to move to the BBC, which includes the following schools:Pettisville, Stryker, Fayette, North Central, Hilltop, Edon and Montpelier. The transition to a new league will likely take about two years, so Holgate will continue to play in the Green Meadows Conference for at least the next year or two.

In the meantime, the Green Meadows Conference reports they will be actively recruiting a school to take Holgate’s place going forward.
