BIDS FOR 2ND MAUMEE RIVER BRIDGE PROJECT IN NAPOLEON DUE NEXT WEEK

The bids for the construction-project to build a second bridge over the Maumee River in the city of Napoleon will be due next Thursday, December 19th. ODOT reports the estimated cost is 11 million dollars for that span, and there’s word a number of contractors are asking questions about the project.

Henry County Highway Department crews have been clearing trees on the north and south sides of the river, to get a head start; because there is limited access in those areas to protect the habitat of the Indiana Bat.A court suit that challenged Henry County’s ability to purchase adjacent property for the new bridge by eminent domain was denied in Henry County Common Pleas Court, but is now going through an Appeals Court.

The new Maumee River bridge would link with Industrial Drive on the north side, and would then ‘T’ into state route 110 on the south side, between the eastern-most building of the Campbell Soup Plant, and county road 12.

The planned wrap-up of construction for the new Maumee River Bridge in Napoleon is sometime around the summer of 2022.
