DEFIANCE COUNTY RESIDENTS APPROACH COMMISSIONERS WITH CONCERNS, AG EXPANS.

Some residents from Milford Township, located in northwest Defiance County, approached commissioners about concerns for proposed hog operations coming in the future.Commissioners have no input in the matter, but rather permitting happens through the Ohio Department of Agriculture.

The residents were concerned that large-scale hog operations could have an impact on the local watershed with runoff from manure operations, and the potential effect on the Michindoh aquifer.Other issues that were brought-up include more truck traffic, and potential effect on property values.

Cooper Farms of Oakwood is seeking new hog operations for the pork industry, much like their current farms they operate in Defiance County. They have nearly 2,300 employees, and more on contract farms in the region to help raise hogs for the pork industry, and turkeys for more food production.
