AUGUST UNEMPLOYMENT NUDGES UPWARD IN OHIO, BUT FALLS IN THE REGION

The unemployment rate in the Buckeye State nudged upward in August; but that trend was not evident in northwest Ohio.The state jobless rate moved from 4.0 to 4.1% last month; but every county in the region declined in unemployment for August. Henry County’s rate fell from 4.6 to 4.1%.Fulton County’s jobless number fell from 4.2 to 3.9% in August.Defiance County dropped from 4.7 to 4.3% in unemployment, making it the only county in the region to be higher than the state average.Williams County was again lowest in the four county area at 3.4% unemployment.Putnam County was low in the region with their jobless rate of 3% for August.Wood County was at 3.9%.

Around the state, the highest unemployment was Monroe County at 7.4%, while Mercer County reported the lowest jobless rate, at 2.7%.
