DEFIANCE COUNCIL CONSIDERING LEASE OF CITY VEHICLES

Is it better to lease or buy a vehicle? The city of Defiance is pondering that questions as they review their fleet of nearly 100 vehicles moving forward.A presentation on the lease program was presented to council Tuesday night; but no action was taken. If eventually approved, it would be a transition over several year.

With emergency repairs needed at the Defiance water treatment plant, due to slope erosion along the Maumee River, council is looking at paying nearly $43,000 for design work on that project.

A second reading was read last night concerning placement of a newborn safety box outside the Defiance fire station, for dropoff of newborn babies.Hicksville has one that has already been used, saving the life of the infant. The cost of $10,000 will be donated by the local Zonta Club.

And due to wet grounds at Auglaize village, the Chautauqua event planned for next week, with historical presentations will be moved to the Defiance Public Library. The first activity is Tuesday, June 4th.
