It was a standing-room only crowd at Defiance City Council Tuesday, with only one issue on the docket- how to proceed with the 1918 Defiance school property on Arabella Street.After about 90 minutes of community input ,that included Defiance city officials, council took a vote.By a 4-2 vote, Defiance Council authorized their law director to prepare legislation that would allow the city of Defiance to negotiate to take ownership of the 1918 school building and property.Two foundations are providing the $300,000 needed for demolition if no developers can be found.The city feels they have the expertise to market this property for a positive development on the south end of the downtown.And they will be taking proposals for prospective projects.There is a 5-year window to turn the parcel into some type of development, and after that demolition is a possibility.
