HIGH WATER ON MAUMEE RIVER PUTS DEFIANCE BRIDGE PROJECT ON HOLD AGAIN

The swollen Maumee River has surged over the causeway that helps give a firm foundation to equipment working on the Clinton Street bridge in Defiance. That high water issue has put the construction on-hold for now in the 8.3 million dollar bridge project.

But while crews were demolishing the previous span, they un-earthed a sandstone footer from the 1880’s.And further digging has revealed the brick foundation for a former brewery at that site.

Once the water levels go down, crews will be constructing the piers for the new Clinton Street bridge in Defiance. There are still two piers from the original span still to take down. And the light fixtures that were removed from the previous bridge are being stored with the intent of placing them on the new Clinton Street bridge.
