The Defiance County Commissioners reviewed the landfill report for 2018 with county engineer Warren Schlatter, indicating it was a record breaking year last year. Total waste received at the Defiance County landfill hit 159,000 tons, which is up almost 11%. That led to revenue from the landfill at 5 million dollars. And the latest report from the landfill shows there are about 55 years remaining in the space.
Schlatter also reports the bike path project from downtown Defiance to Independence Dam State Park is on-hold until spring. Completed work so far includes the addition of 5-foot wide shoulders on both sides of road 424 for biking and pedestrian traffic, along with the addition of guardrail. The 4-mile stretch of widening is being paid-for with federal grant dollars.
