The date is set for the auction of the Defiance City Schools 1918 facility. The auction will take place July 2nd at 10am at the administrative office. A couple of developers have looked at the structure and are considering options. The state of Ohio facilities commission has provided Defiance Schools with $400,000 for demolition if that is needed, along with abatement of the historic building. But that money is only available till the end of this year at the latest. After that, those dollars are returned to the state for other facilities projects. So the Defiance School Board will have to make a final decision on the 1918 building before that time.
The Defiance School Board was in-session Wednesday night, and also discussed renovation plans for the 1928 community auditorium. Beilharz Architects have submitted options for making the auditorium handicapped accessible, more storage, improvements in sound, lights and seating, along with adding air conditioning. More discussion will be needed before decisions are made.
And the Defiance School Board approved head coaching assignments for the coming year, and all will remain the same as the past year.
