There’s a great opportunity for young women to get involved in a fun event, with some scholarship potential. It’s the Henry County Fair Tomato Festival Pageant, and applications are now being accepted for the big event on Sunday, August 12th. Pageant Director Deb Nation reports some of the requirements include: Living in your jurisdiction for the past 12 months to be a candidate. You must be at least 17 years of age, but not older than 23 before Sept. 1st. Contestants must have graduated or earned their GED, and never have been married. The Tomato Queen at the Henry County fair receives a scholarship of $3,500, the first runnerup receives a $1,375 scholarship, and $1,000 goes to the second runnerup. All contestants receive $50 toward a scholarship.
The entry deadline for the Tomato Festival pageant is June 5th. And all applicants must be available to compete in a runoff on June 24th, if there are multiple candidates from one township or village.
