An event to raise awareness of hunger in northwest Ohio has raised a record amount of money to combat the issue. Defiance College hosted their 18th annual student-led ‘Empty Bowl’ program last month, bringing-in over $5,800 for the local Path Center. Empty Bowls is made-up of local restaurants and individuals making and donating a variety of soups and breads, served in handmade bowls. More than 650 bowls were purchased this year, and diners are encouraged to continue using these one-of-a-kind bowls as a reminder of the drive to combat hunger in NW Ohio.
Despite living in a bread-basket of the nation, Ohio has one of the highest rates of residents experiencing food scarcity.
