SNOWMOBILE CRASH, AND HOUSE FIRE ON TUESDAY

The Henry County Sheriff’s office investigated two accidents on Tuesday, with rescue units responding in each incident.  Just before 10am yesterday, 24 year old Kyle Herren of rural Defiance lost control of his auto on state route 66 just south of the Four County School, striking a gas line.  Herren was injured, but not transported from the scene.  The gas company was summoned to cap the leak, and highway was closed for a period of time.

Then at 5:56pm Tuesday, 19 year old Benjamin Zimmerman of rural Defiance was operating a snowmobile in a field near road 18 in Freedom Township.  The unit struck a ditch, and Zimmerman and a passenger were ejected.  Benjamin Zimmerman suffered serious injuries; and was transported to the Fulton County Health Center by Ridgeville Rescue.  He was then transferred by Life Flight to a Toledo Hospital.

The Henry County Sheriff’s office made an arrest in a snowmobile incident along road Z near Napoleon yesterday afternoon.  19 year old Cody Robeson of Napoleon and three juveniles were cited for Trespassing.

In Defiance County, the Highland Township-Ayersville fire department was dispatched to a structure fire reported on Mansfield Road at 1pm Tuesday.  The house was fully involved in flames when crews arrived with mutual aid from Defiance, Continental, Oakwood, Paulding and Auglaize fire departments.  The blaze ignited in a garage, where a wood burner was located, and spread to the home.  The house is a total loss.   The family was not there when the fire ignited.  The Red Cross has been called in to assist the family, and the state fire marshall’s office will investigated the cause of the blaze.
