DEFIANCE COMMISSIONERS TO PROVIDE FUNDS FOR FORT

A local fund of $50,000 provided by the Rover Pipeline, will help preserve the history of the Fort Defiance grounds.   Defiance County Commissioners received the money, and have committed over $22,500 of that total to a project that will help identify specific locations within the fort grounds, dating back to its construction adjacent to the Defiance Public Library in 1794.    General Anthony Wayne had the fort built, and bronze markers are proposed to tell the story of the structure.   Randy Buchman, who is helping to spear-head the project with Richard Rosevink reports they hope to have the markers in place by 2019, which will be the 225th anniversary of the fort’s construction.
