A pay increase and selection of a new councilman were all items tackled at the first Defiance Council session of the year Tuesday night.  John Hancock was selected to take over the vacated 2nd ward council slot, among 3 candidates.   For Hancock it’s a return to the city board.

Defiance Council approved a 2% pay raise for non-bargaining staff members of the city, which includes about 25 employees.

Council is committing money to the street-scape project on 3rd Street, between Clinton and Wayne, with the help of CDBG funds.  The total project is about $149,000.

And Defiance Council passed the legislation to purchase equipment to monitor and analyze overflows in the sewage system.  The $85,000 outlay will provide information immediately when the overflows in the system occur.
