A snowmobile accident early Saturday morning has taken the life of a Defiance man. The Defiance County Sheriff’s office was called to the frozen Maumee River in Defiance near Louden Street. 59 year old Kurt Bachellor of Defiance was operating a snowmobile around 4:10am, headed westbound on the river. Bachellor struck an overhanging branch over the river, and was ejected from the snowmobile. He suffered fatal injuries, and was pronounced dead at the scene by Defiance County Coroner, Dr. William Reeves. An autopsy will be performed by the Lucas County Coroner’s office. Defiance fire and rescue assisted at the scene, along with Defiance Police.
