Some cost-cutting measures are being proposed by the Henry County Senior Center in the wake of a levy defeat in November. Senior Center Director Sandy Blackwood discussed the issue with Henry County Commissioners on Tuesday. A more stringent evaluation process will be implemented for those seeking ‘meals on wheels’, since Henry County is not reimbursed for all expenses in the program. A route will be cut in the program, along with a driver, and a truck will not be replaced, resulting in savings of over $55,000. Another proposal is to cut transportation for seniors to a 45-mile radius which will save about $1,000 per month. And a pay freeze will be implemented for all senior center employees which will cut expenses by $6,200. All these proposals are being recommended due to defeat of the operating levy for senior programs in the November election.
The Henry County Commissioners have approved placing a 1 mill levy on the ballot in May for senior services
