CORRECTIONS COMMISSION REVIEWS INMATE NUMBERS

The regional jail is near its limit of inmates after contracts were approved to bring some federal prisoners to CCNO.  With Toledo dropping out of the Corrections Commission of Northwest Ohio, the local jurisdictions sought to fill their beds, rather than layoff personnel.  The other factor is a full jail, keeps costs down for other participants.              Defiance County has already contracted with Paulding County, to house excess inmates above their allotment of 60.   Henry County has 37 beds for offenders, and according to commissioner Bob Hastedt, if they go over that figure, its likely they could utilize other jurisdictions left-over space.    Another alternative when the regional jail hits capacity is for local judges to determine which inmates to release early.                CCNO has a staff of close to 160 guards, administrators, and support personnel.
