Can an historic mode of transportation in northwest Ohio be transformed into a filter system to improve the Maumee River? That will be the subject of a special event at Defiance College on September 28th, when an Ohio State researcher will discuss ways to improve the water quality on Lake Erie. The solution being discussed, is to route storm water through the former Miami and Erie Canal along the Maumee between Defiance and Napoleon, running it through a filter of plants to improve the quality. The public will be invited to learn more about this idea.
