Multiple law enforcement agencies combined on the search for a suspect in connection with a ‘burglary in progress’ reported in Henry County Thursday afternoon. Just after 1pm yesterday, the Henry County Sheriff’s office was informed, a homeowner in the area of roads 3 and 16 in Pleasant Township had discovered a subject broke into his home, and stole some loaded guns. The suspect fled into a cornfield, and after a lengthy search, was apprehended around 5pm. 29 year old Phillip Panning of rural Deshler was found in a cornfield about a mile from the residence, and was taken into custody. Panning was charged with Aggravated Burglary; and was transported to the regional jail. Sheriff Mike Bodenbender reports more charges are pending in the case, and one gun was recovered. The use of a drone to get a birds-eye view of the field was a key to the arrest. Assisting Henry County was the Putnam County Sheriff’s office, along with the Multi Area Narcotics Task Force. And the Henry County Canine Unit was also utilized in the pursuit.
