CONCERNS WITH FINANCIAL SITUATION AT NW OHIO JUVENILE DETENTION CENTER

The Fulton County Commissioners reviewed financial issues plaguing the Juvenile Detention Center of Northwest Ohio, during a recent session that included their county juvenile judge. When the center opened just over 20 years ago, they charged $94 per day back to each county. That figure is now about $101 per day, per person. But the rising costs associated with the pandemic, like cleaning and disinfecting expenses; and higher wages in the private sector, are having a negative financial impact on the four counties that make up the Juvenile Detention Center. There was talk about reducing staffing, but the report indicated northwest Ohio is at the state minimum already. Fulton County Commissioners and Judge Bumb agreed they want to keep children safe in the detention center, and to provide quality programs while they are being detained.

In other news, the Fulton County board reviewed this year’s interest income, which is projected at nearly $417,000 for 2021, from Fulton County investment of funds at over $71 million dollars.
