NAPOLEON CITY COUNCIL TALKS ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT

The Monday session of Napoleon City Council opened and ended the same way- with discussion on economic development. New CIC Director Jennifer Arps explained her vision for economic development in the county, and then council went into executive session to talk about potential projects. They also closed the meeting behind closed doors to talk more about economic growth.

Napoleon Council approved a third and final reading, establishing a new fund for federal rescue dollars.

Council approved the plans and specs to make street improvements on Michigan Avenue and North Sheffield, which are projected at $450,000, with completion this fall.

The ‘safe routes to schools’ grant was accepted for Napoleon at $207,000, improving sidewalks and crosswalks for students walking and biking to school.

Napoleon City Schools donated five new bicycles and vests for the police department, and another grant of nearly $5,000 will help pay for bullet-proof vests for Napoleon Police officers. The normal life-span of a vest is about five years.
