At their meeting Wednesday night, the Defiance School Board of Education has selected Travis Cooper of Fairview as the next football coach of the Defiance Bulldog program. Cooper comes to Defiance with plenty of experience, including a stint as assistant coach with the Bulldogs under Jerry Buti from 2003 to 2007.From there, the 1998 Fairview grad traveled to Bryan and took over the head job of the Golden Bears for three years, leading them to their first playoff in school history. Cooper’s next stop was Wauseon, where in 8 years he piled up 4 playoff appearances, and back to back NWOAL titles in 2014 and ’15.That 2014 Indian club advanced to the Regional Championship, before falling to Kenton.
Travis Cooper’s career varsity head coaching record is 73-44, and he is currently a biology teacher at Defiance High School. He replaces Kevin Kline who stepped down this spring.
