The Defiance County Commissioners have passed the second resolution to place a levy on the ballot for senior services.The levy is a 1.4 mill renewal, and would generate about 1.36 million dollars each year for operations and programs for senior citizens in Defiance County.This renewal levy will appear on the ballot this November for Defiance County residents.
Senior Services Director Amy Francis also updated the board on May activities, with 5,310 meals delivered to senior citizens.Since the pandemic began, the Defiance County senior center has made over 1,000 telephone calls to seniors to check on their well-being.Starting June 24th, the Area Office on Aging is providing 300 ten-pound boxes of produce available for distribution.Priority is given to senior citizens; but any leftover boxes will be taken to the Path Center.Gordon’s Food Service also provided ten pounds of free produce to be distributed with the Commodity Surplus Food Program.It’s limited to the first 50 recipients on June 22nd.
