It isn’t like the baby boomer days of the early 1970’s when schools were bulging at the seams in the Midwest. But Pettisville Local School is bucking the trend of declining enrollment, and are reporting an increase in student population this year. In fact their gain of about 5.4% is among the top increases around the Buckeye State.
Pettisville has 535 students this fall, and the make-up of the school is interesting to analyze. 290 of those students are district residents, while another 245 arrive through open-enrollment. That’s about 46% of their students are attending from outside the district. When Pettisville built their new school with the help of state tax dollars a few years back, the Ohio School Facilities Commission projected they would be losing enrollment, and called for a smaller project. The Pettisville district appealed based on their giant open-enrollment numbers, and the state allowed for a bigger building. Here are the area school districts that supply the most students to Pettisville through open-enrollment: Wauseon #1, Archbold #2, and Napoleon #3.
