There’s a new president of council in the village of Holgate. Blake Tijerina was elected to that position Tuesday, after Nathan Schwartzengraber resigned due to an increasing work commitment. Schwartzengraber will continue to serve on Holgate Council.
Since there was no response from residents after letters were sent regarding nuisance property violations, the matters will be taken to court for the 8 property owners. Holgate Council is kicking-off their sidewalk improvement program with four residents on the first round list.
There was discussion about a tracking system for bulk water usage, and possibly changing downtown street lights to LED. And the mystery of the missing cannonball at the old Holgate firehouse has been solved. It’s a cannonball that has been missing for over 3 decades. The 175-lb piece of metal was found in the sewer line just down the street from the old fire-house, and was fished to the surface with a chain sling. The cannonball will be returned to the military display as soon as possible.
