People Aren’t Necessarily Over Black Friday

Don’t believe those reports that people are over Black Friday shopping, because it sounds like the stores are likely to be as busy as ever on the day after Thanksgiving.

A new survey by flipp finds that half of Americans will probably or definitely shop on either Black Friday or Cyber Monday, and they’ll be spending a good amount of money. Overall, the average shopper plans to spend about $475 during the two deal days, with men actually spending more than women, $570 vs. $385.

Black Friday and Cyber Monday are ideal for folks looking to check things off their holiday list, with 50% of men and 62% of women saying they buy gifts for the holidays during the two days. When it comes to men, they plan ahead for the shopping days and opt for more high-ticket items like electronics and appliances, while women are more impulsive, and will likely buy toys, clothes and beauty and fragrances products.

Of course, what people want are deals, with 33% of people saying they shop Black Friday in order to get a discount on expensive items. What’s more, 31% are looking for promotions that aren’t usually available during the rest of the year.
