It’s official in Defiance County.The board of elections has certified the votes in the primary election for Defiance County, and David Kern is the top vote-getter, earning a seat on the board of county commissioners.Kern was leading by a slim margin over Patty Schafer, following the unofficial tabulation in the primary on April 28th; but there were a significant number of provisional ballots to add to the count.The final official numbers indicate David Kern had 1,547 votes in the Republican primary, while Patty Schafer collected 1,528 votes to finish a very close second.The other contested race was for Defiance County Sheriff, where Douglas Engel outpolled Gary Plotts 3,197 to 1,545.
And there was no change in the outcome of the three issues on the ballot in the primary:The Ayersville Local School income tax was defeated 818 to 569.The additional tax levy for Hicksville Community Memorial Hospital passed by a margin of 633 to 301.And the local liquor option for Casa Grande passed 98 to 42.28% of the registered voters in Defiance County cast ballots in the primary election.
