Firefighters Finish Yard Work Of Man They Just Saved

posted by Bill Galluccio -

Gene Work was working against the clock with his brother to finishing laying sod before a deadline set by his homeowner's association in Bayonet Point, Florida when he had a massive heart attack. Despite his dire condition, all Gene could think about was finishing the yard work, according to a Facebook post written by his wife Melissa

While he was having his heart attack, literally in and out of consciousness, he kept begging me to figure out the sod and have it put down because he didn't want it to go to waste and die. It's ALL he kept asking about literally during a massive heart attack. LOL. I calmed him and kept saying "Jesus will help us. It's ok. Jesus will figure this out babe."

EMS and firefighters rushed Gene to the hospital, where he is expected to stay for the next few months while he recovers. As Melissa followed Gene to the hospital, his brother stayed behind, determined to finish replacing all the grass in his brother's yard.

When he started to lay the new grass, he heard trucks heading his way and saw the same fire truck and ambulance that had just taken his brother to the hospital. He assumed they were coming back to check on him, but they were there for another reason - to help him finish laying the new sod.

Before he knows it, 7 firefighters and EMT's jumped out, put on gloves and said they came back because they knew Gene was in serious trouble and they wanted to lay the new sod so it didn't die. They knew he wouldn't be able to do any work for weeks so they came back.

They came back!!! They saved his life, dropped him off and then cared enough to save our GRASS!!

Melissa said the first responders had no idea about the looming fine from the HOA, or that Gene had pawned his favorite gun to buy the sod, or that she was scheduled to have a bone marrow transplant later this summer. She explained that they went above and beyond their job because they "simply saw someone in need."

They didn't know our HOA was going to fine us. They didn't know that this guy's wife (Me) is about to fight for my own life during my bone marrow transplant next month. They didn't know that my husband pawned his favorite gun to pay for the sod that he thought was going to die. They didn't know all we have been through as a little family. They simply saw someone in need, something in need and did this for us. This wasn't in their job description. We have no words. Just sobbing.
