A couple of local departments were awarded grant dollars to protect their fire-fighters, through help from the Ohio Bureau of Worker’s Compensation. 39 fire departments in all received funding around the state, totaling more than $376,000. The Archbold fire department was selected to receive about $5,600 to purchase 76 cloth barrier hoods to wear under their helmets, protecting them from cancer causing agents at fires.
And the Montpelier fire department was awarded over $10,000 to purchase 62 barrier hoods, along with 62 pairs of washable gauntlet gloves.
